Silverstone forced to grow up too quickly
ALICIA SILVERSTONE - SILVERSTONE FORCED TO GROW UP TOO QUICKLY: "ALICIA SILVERSTONE was stripped of a typical teenage lifestyle after the global success of CLUELESS, because everyone was convinced she was as worldly as her know-it-all character.

The sexy actress launched to prominence in 1993's THE CRUSH, and immediately garnered a predominantly red-blooded male following - at the tender age of 15.

Her childhood was further complicated when she hit big screens as CHER HOROWITZ in 1995's Clueless, because the media began portraying her as an expert on sex and fashion - just like her fictional film incarnation.

Silverstone says, 'After my first movie The Crush, everyone was saying how sexy I seemed! But I was just 15 for goodness sake! When I look back at that film, I don't know where any of it came from.

'But the image (of Cher) stuck and, for some reason, everyone thought I knew exactly what I was doing when it came to clothes and having a great sex life. It was ridiculous because I knew so little.

'I kidded myself that I did for a time, of course, because that's how you deal with it. I started taking things very seriously.'"

Alicia Silverstone Clueless About Mendels Fur Links
Alicia Silverstone: Alicia Silverstone Clueless About Mendels Fur Links: "Actress and animal activist ALICIA SILVERSTONE twice sported a gown designed by J MENDEL despite the fashion house's penchant for using fur.

The vegan star has previously forced successful US clothing company ANNE KLEIN ditch a fur jacket from their range, and refusing to wear not just fur and leather but also silk and wool on her now-cancelled television sh ow MISS MATCH.
But crafty Mendel persuaded the sexy 28-year-old to wear one of their silk dresses to the Los Angeles premiere of her new film BEAUTY SHOP, according to PAGE.SIX.COM, and it didn't occur to Silverstone that the garment was made in the same factory as their fur clothing.

Silverstone said in the past, 'I think wearing fur is unacceptable... The animals are tortured so badly. Nobody should be wearing fur.'"

Silverstone: 'I'm a hairdresser's nightmare'
ALICIA SILVERSTONE - SILVERSTONE IM A HAIRDRESSERS NIGHTMARE: "ALICIA SILVERSTONE hates being pampered in Hollywood salons - despite being back on the big screen with new comedy BEAUTY SHOP.

The 28-year-old star, who shot to fame in 1995 film CLUELESS, would rather have dirty hair than visit a hairdresser.

She says, 'I actually find most beauty shop experiences to be pretty horrifying. I feel most comfortable with my hair being four days dirty.

'I torture my hairdressers, especially when they're my friends. I love playing with them and making them really nervous.

'I'm really a hairdresser's worst nightmare.'"

Weak, lazy 'Beauty Shop' wastes likable cast, including Alicia Silverstone
Weak, lazy 'Beauty Shop' wastes likable cast - Bangornews.com Staff: "The film stars Latifah as Gina Norris - the snippy co-star of 'Barbershop 2' - who has recently moved from the southside of Chicago to Atlanta. There, she works at an exclusive salon for the Eurotrashy Jorge Christophe, who is played here by Kevin Bacon in full mincing swish.

He is hardly the film's only stereotype. For instance, the movie's idea of black women is that they must be overbearing, obnoxious, castrating clowns ready to brawl or to sell a joke. Conversely, white people are predominantly square, awkward, hopeless. If this were satire, the movie might work. But 'Beauty Shop' isn't satire. It's just lazy and unimaginative, with writing that's stuck in a rut.

The cast is likable, but squandered, with Alicia Silverstone lost as the dumbest of hair-burning hillbillies, Djimon Hounsou almost wordless as Gina's grinning love interest, and Andie MacDowell and Mena Suvari serviceable as members of Gina's wealthy, white clientele. They dig Gina's home-grown hair conditioner, Hair Crack, so much that they follow her to her new digs, thus causing all sorts of problems with Jorge.

This is Latifah's fifth disappointment in a row, and it deepens the divide between the outstanding work she did in her Academy Award-nominated performance in 2002's 'Chicago,' and her more recent work in such underwhelming duds as 'The Cookout' and 'Taxi.'"

Movie Review: Beauty Shop, starring Alicia Silverstone
Chronic Magazine: "'Beauty Shop' picks up where the successful movie 'Barbershop' (soon to be a Showtime series) left off. Queen Latifah, who made an appearance in the sequel, returns as main character Gina, a no-nonsense, widowed mother who has left the South Side of Chicago for Atlanta.

The movie begins with Gina working as a stylist at an ultra-posh salon owned by Jorge (Kevin Bacon). Disgusted by his criticism and demands, she decides to open her own establishment where she encounters a zealous building inspector, daunting expenses and a hostile staff that includes her rebellious niece Darnelle (Keshia Knight Pulliam, who once played Rudy Huxtable on 'The Cosby Show'); Alfre Woodard as Ms. Josephine - so deep into black culture that she frequently bursts into quotes from Maya Angelou; Golden Brooks ("Girlfriends") plays sassy-mouthed Chanel and token white girl Alicia Silverstone. Along the way, a piano-playing electrician named Joe (Djimon Hounsou) who lives above the salon makes several appearances. "

Silverstone wants to publish restaurant guide
CLUELESS - SILVERSTONE WANTS TO PUBLISH RESTAURANT GUIDE: "CLUELESS star ALICIA SILVERSTONE loves eating out so much, she plans to release her own restaurant guide.
The devout vegan constantly thumbs through restaurant guides to get their opinions on the world's eateries, before making notes of her own once she's visited them.
She says, 'I'm obsessed with the ZAGAT guide. I carry it with me everywhere.
'I would like to come out with my own version of the Zagat guide 'cause I've made such amazing notes. I know all the best places to go. I think one day (I'll publish it). I mean, it's so fun.' "

Review: 'Beauty Shop', starring Alicia Silverstone
'Beauty Shop' like a sitcom: "It sticks to the Barbershop formula with a gender change, is less well-written and far less original. Still, Latifah is a pleasant enough presence, and the rest of the cast is sufficiently amiable that most moviegoers will probably not mind how clumsily this movie has been put together.

Hard-working single mom Gina Norris (Latifah) has moved to Atlanta, largely for the sake of her talented daughter Vanessa's (Paige Hurd) musical education. Quickly, Gina becomes the top beautician at an upscale salon owned and run by the terribly affected, unidentifiably accented Jorge Christophe (Kevin Bacon, who is either just in this for fun or is paying off a lost election bet).

Hassled by Jorge one time too many, Gina walks out, determined to open her own shop in the inner city. This she does when a reticent bank officer agrees to float the business a loan after Gina gives her a terrific comb-out. Most of the black, sassy stylists follow her to the new parlor, along with a token white character, Alicia Silverstone as clueless Southern cracker Lynn, a shampoo girl never given the chance to show she can curl up and dye as well as anyone at Jorge's.

Things quickly go wrong for the shop, which has insufficient electrical wiring and attracts a snoopy city code inspector. Small-business proprietors will probably identify with Gina's woes, but never doubt that her problems will evaporate by the final fade-out, despite Jorge's efforts to sabotage her."
